BOCK JOZSEF WINERY (Villány region)
Capella Cuvée. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, mellowed for 24 months in new Hungarian barrique barrels. This wine is made only in exceptional years with fruit from the finest vineyard lots. Full of chewy tannins, this wine is silky chocolate, full of structure, round and long lasting. 450 cases.
Bock Cuvée Barrique. The winery’s flagship wine is a classic, Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, mellowed 18 months in barrique barrels. A heady flavor of chocolate and vanilla, along with pleasant aromas of tobacco, leather and hints of wood characterize this wine. This is wine that can be cellared for years. 2,500 cases made annually in excellent to exceptional vintages.
Royal Cuvée. A great blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Pinot Noir, it is a classy, interesting and fashionable wine in which the robust austerity of the cabernet is balanced by the playful acids and easy touch of the pinot. This wine is aged 18 months in new oak barrels. About 2,500 cases are made in any given year.
Ermitage Cuvée. A truly unique blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Kékfrankos, and Portugieser, which is mellowed 14 months in large and barrique oak barrels. 5,800 cases.
Kékfrankos. (Pron: cake-fron-koash). Also known as blaufrankisch or lemberger, Hungary is the spiritual home for this grape, and is the country most widely planted with this varietal. This is a full-bodied wine with bright acids and classic spiciness. 3,300 cases made. Hárslevelu. (Pron: Harsh-level-oo). A true Hungarian varietal, the name means “linden leaf“. This is a light bodied white wine with a distinct floral boquet. Delicious! 3,300 cases made.
Rose Cuvée. A rich blend of the Kékfrankos, Portugieser, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc varietals. This fruity wine has bright acidity, and is crafted in the style of a traditional, fun rose. 8,400 cases made.
ATTILA GERE WINERY (Villány region)
Solus Merlot. This wine is made from 100% Merlot, exclusively from the fruit grown in the Kopár vineyard, and matured 16 months in new oak barrique barrels. This wine has considerable character, with a ruby red color, alluring and harmonious aromas, and a long finish. Only 540 cases are made in excellent years, with each bottle individually numbered. Will benefit from additional bottle ageing.
Kopar Cuvée. The winery‘s flagship wine, this is a classic Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. This wine is made only in the finest years with the hand-selected grapes from the Kopár, Csillagvölgy, and Konkoly vineyards. It has a dark ruby color, and an aroma that is discrete but spicy, and very persistent with notes of chestnut, Italian cappuccino, and a range of fruits. It has a round palate with a robust texture. This wine is aged 20 months in barrique barrels, and is capable of a long bottle life in the cellar. 3,300 cases made.
Cabernet Sauvignon Barrique. An exceptional example of this grape‘s capability, its deep ruby color is permeated with shades of violet. Exuberant aromas of blackberry, currant, wild berries, with a note of wood are present in this wine. Firm, yet delicate, tannins and sweet flavors characterize the wine. Barrique-aged for eighteen months, it has a complex build, and a persistent finish. 10,000 cases made.
Kékfrankos Prestige. A rich, fiery, masculine wine is typical for this interpretation of the Kékfrankos grape. Dark red in color, with an elegant aroma full of fruit and spice notes. It has a breezy, lasting taste on the palate. This wine was aged 18 months in new barrique barrels. 585 cases made.
MALATINSZKY WINERY (Villány region)
Cabernet Franc: Unfiltered Series. Made from premium grapes, this is the Malatinszky flagship wine, and one of the finest examples of this grape’s potential in Hungary. This wine is a fruit bomb, but with elegance and structure, massive aromas and tastes of berries, plums, currant, and subtle hints of oak. This is a big wine capable of long cellaring. 500 cases made.
Noblesse Chardonnay. A massive, gorgeous, structured wine. Subtle aromas of fruit, mineral, honey, spice and dried herbs. Loads of butter and pear notes on the palate kick into high gear, turning rich and opulent with a long aftertaste. Seamless in structure and texture, this wine can hold well for several more years in the bottle. 500 cases made.
Noblesse Pinot Noir. Marked by mint and sage notes, the core of cherry and plum flavors is intense and concentrated, slowly weaving through the fim tannins. Finishes with dashes of blackberry and spice. A few more years in the bottle will do this wine very well. 500 cases made.
Noblesse Cabernoir. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Pinot Noir. This is a robust wine, softened at the edges by the finesse of the Pinot Noir. A flexible wine that works well with a variety of settings.
PATRICIUS WINERY (Tokaj Region)
Tokaj Aszú 6 Puttonyos Bendecz-Dulo 2000. A wonderful, first growth single vineyard bottling. Majestic and smooth in the glass, with fragrance of peach and exotic spices. The boquet is concentrated and full, with mouth filling flavors. Residual sugar: 180 g/l.
Tokaj Aszú 6 Puttonyos 2000. This and concentrated, this aszu wine already boasts ripe frangrances of exotic fruit mixed with notes of honey. Its balanced acidity and residual sugar make it pleasant to drink today. Pair with heavy cheeses or rich deserts, or even a good cigar. Residual sugar: 175 g/l.
Tokaj Aszú 5 Puttonyos 2000. Aromas and flavors of apricot and peach. Well balanced acidity, sugar and alcohol combine in a smooth structure that is easy to drink. A great match for Foie Gras. Residual sugar: 138 g/l.
Tokaj Aszú 4 Puttonyos 2000. Pleasant aromas and flavors of botrysized fruit and berries. This is an easy going wine that can be enjoyed on its own, or with light deserts. Residual sugar: 117 g/l.
Dry Furmint. The furmint is a true varietal, and is often the major component in the sweet Tokaj wines. This dry wine is light bodied, with abundant notes of green fruits and grasses on the nose and palate. A wonderful accompaniment to light salads and fish.
WENINGER WINERY (Sopron Region)
Spern Steiner Kékfrankos Selection ~ Concentrated aromas of berries characterize this dark red wine. Notes of moss, tobacco, cigar box, are also discernible. It is very juicy on the palate, with enormous concentration of silky tannins, and a finish that is long, graceful and complex.
Frettner Cuvée ~ A cuvée of Syrah, Kékfrankos, and Merlot grapes sourced from the Frettner vineyard. The nose exhibits fine toasty aromas with notes of black cherries, blackberries, and cassis. On the palate a delicate fruit flavor with notes of clove and cinnamon.
Kékfrankos ~ This wine exhibits a ccomplex ripe nose, with mineral notes and classic spiciness. Supple on the palate with nicely integrated tannins.
WENINGER & GERE WINERY
Cabernet Franc Selection. This grape sems to have found a spiritual home in Hungary, and this amazing wine is handcrafted in partnership with Franz Weninger, one of Austria’s finest winemakers. A deep ruby color, matched by an intense, rich and long-lasting bouquet, this wine shows an exuberant and sweet spicy aroma and taste. It spends eighteen months in new barrique barrels. Full of youthful tannins that will nicely mature, this wine will show real beauty after 2-3 years in bottle. 840 cases made.
Cuvée Phoenix. A fascinating blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Kékfrankos, the wine is a deep red color, and its bouquet embraces blackberry and plum notes with a smoky palate. It feels smooth in the mouth with a long-lasting finish, supported by an elegant tannin structure. This wine is aged 16 months in small and large barrels. 3,300 cases made.
