BOCK WINERY The Bock family has a long history of making wine, arriving in the
Villány area in the late 1800s. World War II, and the ensuing
Communist-led governing structure interrupted their traditions. Since
the late 1980s, Jozsef Bock has been integrating himself and his family
into winemaking. Joszef, who was named Hungary’s Winemaker of the Year
in 1997, bottles single varietals in different styles, as well as a
variety of blends.
Bock’s wines are characterized by huge
structure, textures, refined taste, and ageability among the premier
selections. The winery owns 50 hectares (124 acres), of which 36
hectares (89 acres) are currently producing Cabernet Sauvignon,
Cabernet Franc, Portugieser, Merlot, Kékfrankos, Pinot Noir, and Syrah.
White grapes include Olaszrizling, Chardonnay, and Hárslevelu. The
Bock winery also caters to wine tourists by providing a warm and
hospitable atmosphere at its modern Pension. Guest services include
daily breakfast, sauna, solarium, jacuzzi, wellness activities, and
wine cellar tours and tastings. Each room has private bath, air
conditioning, satellite TV, and a direct dial phone.
